A unique FELTEN solution at the National Opera & Ballet
When you're watching a performance from your plush seat, you sometimes have no idea of the amount of technology involved. For the Dutch National Opera & Ballet in Amsterdam, FELTEN Wire & Cable Solutions developed a special cable in collaboration with BizLink Elocab. This cable is used in their stage lighting system.
This hybrid cable is designed to be both suitable for dynamical movement and mechanically stressed. The power supply and control signals are combined in one cable. The power supply consists of five highly flexible cores of 35 mm² each, made up of 3185 very fine copper strands of 0.10 mm each. The control current is carried by the six central cores. Data is communicated through the flexible multimode OM3 fiber optic elements. Each simplex fiber optic element has a separate sheath, making them suitable for direct connector assembly. In the application, the cable runs over a large pulley to an electric cable reel. The mechanical forces include bending, tensile, and compressive forces.
The double-extruded wear-resistant polyurethane sheath has an integrated aramid/Kevlar strain relief. This combination ensures that mechanical forces of at least 1000N are absorbed by the outer sheath. You might see a spotlight on stage differently when you know how many engineers were involved in making that lighting possible.
FELTEN Wire & Cable Solutions gladly tackles such complex cable requests. Would you like us to shed some light on your complex cable question?
