Special cable design for berthing tankers safely to the quay

Safely berthing tankers to the quay through fiber optic communication

Berthing tankers alongside the quay can be done fully automated. The navigation system is equipped with sensors that monitor important factors like speed, direction of both wind and current, waves and tide to safely guide the vessel to the quay. The approaching distance, speed and angle of the ship is measured by laser beams. It’s crucial that all the separate devices can be coupled and communicate with each other.

For a similar project in Abu Dhabi, these Profibus cables had to be armoured to be robust and protected to extreme heavy loads and pressure. The cable needs to stay intact no matter what. The cable is UV resistant and is able to withstand high ambient temperatures up to 87°C in direct sunlight while being flexible at the same time.
